Immanuel is a song that I wrote for my worship community. Advent is a precious time of the year for us as we focus on some foundational themes for our community. Themes like waiting, silence, and rest, peace, the love of God, and joy. An important theme for us is the Immanuel (God with us) presence of God. Of course, we see this so powerfully in the retelling of the incarnation of Jesus, who is Immanuel. But we also lean into His Immanuel presence that is made available to us now in the ordinariness and struggles of life, through His Spirit indwelling us. My song, Immanuel, is a song of hope and of longing, written to be sung in community.
